The appropriate jailbreak tool for iPhone 3G S devices has reportedly been released for the Mac platform as well. Last week, as Softpedia reported the tool’s availability, supported platforms included Windows machines only. This week, a Mac version of PurpleRa1n is available to the public.
On Friday, July 3, 2009, a blogger going by the name of George Hotz posted what he called the jailbreak for Apple’s fresh iPhone 3G S. George Hotz or GeoHot is the author of the PurpleRa1n tool and revealed that the method was, at that time, supported only on Windows platforms. Windows 7 was (and likely still is) not compatible with the jailbreak solution.
“Yes, this is what you've all been waiting for,” GeoHot said in his blog post last week. “A jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS. And it's awesome. To get started right now, go to purplera1n.com. Download it. Make sure you have windows, the latest iTunes installed, and an iPhone 3GS with 3.0 firmware. Connect your iPhone normally. Click 'make it ra1n.' Wait. On bootup, run Freeze, the purplera1n installer app [...] Make sure to have everything backed up before running. Also if Cydia doesn't show up after running Freeze, reboot,” the message goes.
“I'm not a mac coder, so AriX and westbaer stepped up to do it,” reads GeoHot’s latest update. “Download link on purplera1n.com, and thank AriX and westbaer next time you see them! Also, some more payload stability improvements were made, and the windows version was updated to RC2a,” GeoHot writes.
Reportedly, once PurpleRa1n installs Cydia on your device, you can also use the Dev Team's UltraSn0w unlock tool.

The Web Installer is the easiest way to install Nextcloud on a web space. It checks the dependencies, downloads Nextcloud from the official server, unpacks it with the right permissions and the right user account. Finally, you will be redirected to the Nextcloud installer.
- Right-click here and save the file to your computer
- Upload setup-nextcloud.php to your web space
- Point your web browser to setup-nextcloud.php on your webspace
- Follow the instructions and configure Nextcloud
- Login to your newly created Nextcloud instance!

Note that the installer uses the same Nextcloud version as available for the built in updater in Nextcloud. After a major release it can take up to a month before it becomes available through the web installer and the updater. This is done to spread the deployment of new major releases out over time.
