Issues fixed[edit]
Running the game on 64-bit Windows[edit]
Although the game installer is 16-bit, the actual game is 32-bit. The only way to play it is to use an alternate installer:
Installing the game via alternate installer[edit]
Setting up the game with an alternate installer[citation needed]
Somewhere on the computer (ex. the Desktop), create a new folder called 'SETUP'.
Copy the contents of the Lego Chess CD and paste them into the folder that was created before.
When everything has finished copying, go to <Setup Folder> and delete the SETUP.EXE file.
Download the generic 32-bit installer and add it to the folder.
Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once the installer has finished, download the missing text file and add it to <path-to-game>.
Run the Lego Chess.exe file to play the game.
Game crashes on startup[edit]
Use nGlide[citation needed]

Poor quality 3D rendering[edit]
Change the graphics driver settings
The 'Krisalis Software Driver' gets used if the game doesn't think Direct3D will work. This driver makes 'wobbly' 3D, sort of like original PlayStation games. It also has a lower color depth than the Direct3D driver. In later Windows versions (and under Wine in Linux/Mac OS) the game might not properly detect Direct3D support without using some workarounds.
Set the game shortcut (or .exe file) to run in Windows 98 or 95 compatibility mode. If using Wine, change the Windows version in winecfg instead.
Also set the 'Chess Configuration' shortcut to run in Windows 98 or 95 compatibility mode.
Next, run the 'Chess Configuration' item in the start menu (or launch the game with the /video command-line argument).
In the dialogue that appears, set the graphics driver to D3D 4MB+, which should now be a selectable option.
If still encountering issues in Windows 8 or 10, consider trying WineD3D.
